What is health?

As defined by World Health Organization (WHO), it is a “State of complete physical, mental, and social well being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. It may look like a simple question but there is a more beyond of this in the context of evolutionary perspective. Any organism is not primarily adapted to achieve goals that people care about, such as being healthy, living long and being happy. We adapted to reproduce more and effectively. In addition, adaptations promote health, happiness and living long only as much as it increases reproduction. However, there is a lack of awareness of their importance amongst physicians, medical researchers, educators, and students. In this section, we evaluate diseases in every respect not only their proximate reasons and aim to increase the literacy of health in terms of evolutionary medicine.

What is the health literacy ?

Ratzan and Parker defined health literacy as the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions. Health literacy has a place in self-care of chronic conditions, maintenance of health and wellness and also has a relationship with health outcomes and costs.
